Press ReleaseThe End Violence Project Completes First Program at Metro State Prison for WomenBryn Mawr, PA & Altanta, GA, December 20, 2009 Dec 20, 2009 – The Board of Directors of The End Violence Project ("EVP" or "the Project") is pleased to announce the successful completion of the first EVP program at Metro State Prison for Women in Atlanta. Eighteen resident of Metro State's Faith and Character Dormitory completed the core EVP program offered in correctional facilities in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Florida. Program Director Wendy Lippard notes, "These 18 residents were amazed at the skills they acquired as well as the accomplishments they achieved by the projects created as part of the program. One such project, 'Quilts of Love,'caused residents and facility staff members alike to participate in creating blankets and quilts for newborns delivered inside of the facility. By the end of the program, there were far more quilts and blankets made than there were newborn babies to use them. The program was able to distribute the excess blankets to the elderly just in time for the holiday season. This is just one of the many ways the program made a difference with this population of women at Metro State." As of the end of December, Lippard and her fellow volunteers launched the second EVP program to a new group of participants of the Faith and Character dorm, which is scheduled to be completed in early May 2010. The End Violence Project offers programs in five prisons in three states and in one Community Correction Center in Philadelphia. Whether in or out of prison, people who attend the programs are encouraged to forgive and are provided principles, tools, and opportunities for healing and creating a life of freedom, integrity, contribution and compassionate leadership.
